Patrice Marraud des Grottes, the founder, started the company to offer colorful and innovative wallpapers which he felt were missing from the market. The company was founded in 1988 and is based in Toulouse, France. Élitis has always been the kind of design studio that operates like a fashion house—employing a team of creatives that experiment and conjure up stunning wallpaper and textiles that anticipated cultural influences, palettes, and aesthetic adventures long before they could be neatly defined. With patterns in relief, color blocking, and wovens, the brand was all-in and all-craft before the age of digital printers.
